Benefits

Wellcare is part of Centene Corporation, the sixth-largest provider of Medicare Advantage plans. Centene completed the acquisition of Wellcare in early 2020.

Wellcare-Medicare

Although Wellcare Medicare and Centene have merged, Wellcare’s ratings are lower than other providers. Only about a quarter of Wellcare members who have contracts with a Medicare star rating in 2021 have arrangements with a rating of 4 or more (out of 5). Wellcare plans struggle in several categories, and member satisfaction leaves them behind other Medicare Advantage providers.

Wellcare Medicare Advantages

Company Strength: In 2020, Centene completed the acquisition of Wellcare, and the combined companies will increase their Medicare Advantage market presence from 1.24% in 2020 to 4.14% of the market in 2021.

Additional Benefits – Some Wellcare plans include the Flex Card preloaded with other credits that members can use for dental, eye, and hearing care once their coverage is exhausted.

Chronic Illness Supplements: Some rates include unique established illness benefits, including groceries, incidentals, and concierge services.

Part B premium coverage: Some plans include a reimbursement benefit that reimburses all or part of your Medicare Part B premium.

Flex cards give members cash for additional benefits: WellCare Medicare Advantage members receive between $200 and $2,500 in Visa Flex cards, depending on plan and location. A patient can use this money to cover the cost of dental, eye, or hearing services out of pocket.

Extra Benefits

The Medicare Advantage plans from WellCare typically include additional coverage such as dental, vision, and hearing protection. Several methods include free memberships to gyms and home exercise programs. Many WellCare plans cover telemedicine visits and in-person visits and offer free transportation to and from doctors’ offices and pharmacies.

WellCare also offers its Medicare Advantage members the Flex Card, a preloaded Visa debit card with a dollar value ranging from $200 to $2,500. Members can use the Flex Card for dental, vision, or hearing expenses or other extras that may not be insured.
